Phelim discusses life as a Graduate Technical Consultant at SyndeoElaine Armstrong
This week we caught up with the newest member of our team, Phelim Lennon, to hear how he has found his first few months of working life at Syndeo and what advice he has for anyone applying for graduate tech roles in Northern Ireland. Phelim is a graduate of John Moores University in Liverpool and completed an internship with Syndeo in 2018. He joined Syndeo as a Technical Consultant earlier this year.
Q: How have your first few months at Syndeo been?
A: Great so far – everyone has been very welcoming and helpful. I have been working under the close guidance of senior consultants and have learned so much in a short space of time, not only around software implementation but across other areas of the business.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your role?
A: I enjoy working on and continually learning about artificial intelligence and the real-world application of this relatively new technology. Working on customer software implementations gives me a great overview on how the company operates as a whole, I work with existing customers and am involved in onboarding new ones. I have also been introduced to front-end and back-end development tools, making it much easier to learn about and visualise a software development team in practice. No two days are the same and I am really excited for what the future has to bring!
Q: From your experience so far what would you say you like best about Syndeo?
A: I really enjoy learning and am keen to progress my career. I love that Syndeo are happy to support and invest in my Continuing Professional Development. Since joining I have completed numerous training courses to support me in my role. The flexibility to work the hours that suit my lifestyle combined with a mix of remote and office working is brilliant too.
Q: Do you have any advice for anyone applying for graduate tech roles in Northern Ireland?
A: I would encourage graduates to consider smaller tech companies in Northern Ireland as they have so much to offer in terms of real hands-on experience. I am getting a lot of experience and senior level support at Syndeo that I may not have gotten elsewhere. It’s also important to do your research on the various companies out there and the types of work they are doing and for whom. When I looked into the role at Syndeo I was impressed that although not a huge company, Syndeo was already working with large global brands.
